Welcome to our site The Alumni Association of the University of Wisconsin - Madison School of Music, welcomes and encourages all who share its goals to its membership. The following statements give a brief overview of the Association's purpose, goals, and activities.    About this site Mission Statement   The mission of the UW-Madison School of Music Alumni Association (SOMAA) is to support and strengthen the educational effectiveness of the School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and to maintain a close spirit of cooperation and communication between the alumni and the School of Music.   Vision Statement   The vision of SOMAA is to contribute to the lifelong musical and collegial benefits of students and alumni of the School of Music, and society as a whole. It will maximize its impact in accord with the School of Music goals and objectives.      Highlights Membership   We invite all graduates, former students, and faculty members of the UW - Madison School of Music and all individuals who wish to support the UW-Madison School of Music. Membership dues are $40.00 per year, with a life membership available for $500.00. The membership year runs from January to January. Please email Linda at lclauder@wisc.edu   Board of Directors   The Board of Directors consists of 17 directors. Fifteen are elected by the current membership, and two are appointed. One of the appointed members is a current faculty member of the School of Music. The second is a student in a degree program in the School of Music. These two members are appointed annually. The fifteen elected members of the Board serve three-year terms, with five elected each year. Each member may serve no more than two consecutive terms. The current Board members elect officers.

News:   Student Scholarship Recipients   Emily Hahn, flute 2004-05   Reilly Hatch, trombone 2005-06   Casey Coolidge, piano 2006-07   Shohreh Davoodi, oboe 2007-08   Daniel Kim, viola 2007-08     David Olson, voice 2008-09     Judith Stephen, french horn 2008-09     Lisa Garza, percussion 2009-10   Mark Hatfield, trumpet 2009-10         Did you know? . . . that when you are called by the UW Foundation, you may designate your contribution to the "UW School of Music Alumni Association Scholarship Fund."   "Double Your Money" Scholarship Fund The University of Wisconsin School of Music Alumni Association is continuing its Scholarship Program in cooperation with the UW Foundation.   The UW-Madison Music Alumni Matching Scholarship Fund (Fund #12621735) is now open to receive tax-deductible donations. They will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $8,000 by a special UW Foundation Fund. This fund matching opportunity from the UW Foundation is available every calendar year.   When contributions to the matching fund exceed $8,000 per year, the Alumni Board has established another fund in the UW Foundation, an interest bearing (but not matching) "restricted fund" which in the near future will become an endowment fund, earning higher interest rates and guaranteeing support over the long term and into perpetuity.   Contributions received each year from 2002 to 2005 have exceeded the matching fund level, therefore guaranteeing the School of Music Scholarship Committee additional funds for distribution to students!
